About Gurugram

Gurugram, formerly Gurgaon, is a city in Haryana next to Delhi, within the National Capital Region. At the 2011 census the Gurugram Municipal Corporation area had 876,969 residents, and Gurugram district as a whole 1,514,432.

Over the past few decades the city has become one of the main corporate office locations in the National Capital Region. DLF Cyber City houses IT companies and multinational offices, Golf Course Road and its extension carry newer office towers, and Udyog Vihar and Manesar provide space for manufacturing and lower-cost operations.

Economy and main industries

Corporate services are the core of Gurugram's economy. DLF Cyber City, a corporate park that gave the city its "Cyber City" nickname, is home to IT companies and offices of Fortune 500 firms. Office space has since spread along Golf Course Road, Golf Course Extension Road, MG Road, Sohna Road and the NH-48 corridor.

Manufacturing remains significant. Udyog Vihar, a conventional industrial area on the opposite side of NH-48 from Cyber City, holds factories, workshops and company offices, and Manesar further out is the city's main lower-cost industrial and operations location. Around these sectors sit facility management, staffing, transport, catering and hospitality businesses that serve the corporate workforce.

Main business areas and markets

DLF Cyber City is the best-known office address, with a dense concentration of technology and multinational companies. Golf Course Road is a premium office and residential corridor, and Golf Course Extension Road is often recommended for start-ups looking for more affordable space. MG Road and the NH-48 (formerly NH-8) corridor hold offices, hotels and showrooms.

Udyog Vihar is the established industrial area close to the city, and Manesar is the larger industrial location further out. Sohna Road is another option for businesses for which budget and operations matter more than prestige.

The older parts of the city, including Sadar Bazar, Civil Lines, Jacobpura and Sector 12, share the 122001 PIN code and are home to many long-established local businesses.

Office space and corporate services

Many companies choose their location in Gurugram according to cost and purpose. Cyber City and Golf Course Road command the highest rents and suit client-facing offices, while Udyog Vihar, Sohna Road and Manesar suit back offices, warehousing and manufacturing. Coworking providers, interior fit-out firms, office equipment suppliers and corporate transport operators are therefore among the most searched business types in the city.
